 ರವಿ —  ಅಪ್ಪ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಠ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. 
Father goes to work. Mother teaches at a school.  
 ಗೀತಾ —  ನಿನ್ನ ತಂಗಿ ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ? 
What does your younger sister do?  
 ರವಿ —  ಅವಳು ಹಾಡು ಹಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಆಟ ಆಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. 
She sings songs. My little brother plays games.  
 ಗೀತಾ —  ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಕ್ಕು? ಅದು ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ? 
And the cat? What does it do?  
 ರವಿ —  ಅದು ದಿನವೂ ಮಲಗುತ್ತದೆ! 
It sleeps all day!  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಅವನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವಳು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅದು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವರು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಾಣಿ-ವಸ್ತು ಹಲವು ಆದರೆ — ಅವು ಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ.

Third person endings: ಅವನು → -ತ್ತಾನೆ (ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ he does), ಅವಳು → -ತ್ತಾಳೆ (ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ she does), ಅದು → -ತ್ತದೆ (ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ it does), ಅವರು → -ತ್ತಾರೆ (ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ they do). For several animals or things (ಅವು), use -ತ್ತವೆ: ಬೆಕ್ಕುಗಳು ಮಲಗುತ್ತವೆ.

ನೆನಪಿಡಿ: ಗೌರವದ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ “-ತ್ತಾರೆ”. ಅಪ್ಪ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅಮ್ಮ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ — ಒಬ್ಬರೇ ಆದರೂ.

Remember the respect rule from the pronouns lesson: parents, teachers and elders take -ತ್ತಾರೆ even when singular — ಅಪ್ಪ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ “father goes”. Using ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾನೆ for your father would sound rude in the standard register.

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದು ವಾಕ್ಯ ಹೇಳಿ — ಸರಿಯಾದ ರೂಪ ಬಳಸಿ: -ತ್ತಾನೆ, -ತ್ತಾಳೆ, -ತ್ತಾರೆ, -ತ್ತದೆ.

Describe what each person (and pet!) in your household does, choosing the right ending every time: ಅಪ್ಪ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ, ತಂಗಿ ಓದುತ್ತಾಳೆ, ನಾಯಿ ಆಡುತ್ತದೆ. Aim for at least five sentences.
