 ರವಿ —  ತುಂಬ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ! ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕೋಣೆ ಇವೆ. 
Very nice! There are four rooms.  
 ಲತಾ —  ಅಡುಗೆಮನೆ ದೊಡ್ಡದಾ? 
Is the kitchen big?  
 ರವಿ —  ಹೌದು, ದೊಡ್ಡದು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮ್ಮ ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. 
Yes, it is big. Mother cooks there.  
 ಲತಾ —  ನಿನ್ನ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏನು ಇದೆ? 
What is in your room?  
 ರವಿ —  ಒಂದು ಮೇಜು, ಒಂದು ಕುರ್ಚಿ, ಮತ್ತು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಿಟಕಿ ಇದೆ. 
There is a table, a chair, and a big window.  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಮನೆಯ ಭಾಗಗಳು: ಅಡುಗೆಮನೆ (ಅಡುಗೆ + ಮನೆ), ಬಚ್ಚಲುಮನೆ, ಮಲಗುವ ಕೋಣೆ. “ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡು” = to cook.

Room names are transparent compounds: ಅಡುಗೆಮನೆ “cooking-house” = kitchen, ಬಚ್ಚಲುಮನೆ = bathroom, ಮಲಗುವ ಕೋಣೆ “sleeping room” = bedroom. The verb for cooking is ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡು — another noun + ಮಾಡು pair like ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡು.

ಒಂದು ವಸ್ತು — “ಇದೆ”; ಹಲವು ವಸ್ತು — “ಇವೆ”. “ಒಂದು ಮೇಜು ಇದೆ”, “ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕೋಣೆ ಇವೆ”.

New plural: one thing ಇದೆ, several things ಇವೆ. ಒಂದು ಮೇಜು ಇದೆ “there is one table”, but ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕೋಣೆ ಇವೆ “there are four rooms”. This matches ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ/ಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ from the present-tense lesson.

Walk through your own home aloud: ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ … ಕೋಣೆ ಇವೆ. Name one thing in each room (… ಇದೆ) and one activity (ಅಡುಗೆಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮ್ಮ ಅಡುಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ; ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತೇನೆ).
