 ಮೇಡಂ —  ಅಭಿನಂದನೆಗಳು! ಮಾತಿನ ಆರು ಹಂತ ಮುಗಿಯಿತು. ನಮಸ್ಕಾರದಿಂದ ಗಾದೆಯವರೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೀರಿ. 
Congratulations! The six spoken levels are done. You have come all the way from namaskāra to proverbs.  
 ವಿನಯ್ —  ಹೌದು ಮೇಡಂ! ಈಗ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಂದೆ ಏನು? 
Yes, madam! Sometimes I feel I am even thinking in Kannada now. What comes next?  
 ಮೇಡಂ —  ಮುಂದೆ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣದ ಪಯಣ. “ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ” ಎಂದು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೀರಿ — ಆದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ “ಯ” ಏಕೆ ಬಂತು ಗೊತ್ತೇ? 
Next, the journey into grammar. You say maneyalli correctly — but do you know why that 'ya' appears there?  
 ವಿನಯ್ —  ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ! ಬಾಯಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ, ಕಾರಣ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. 
No idea! My mouth says it, but I don't know the reason.  
 ಮೇಡಂ —  ಅದೇ ಸಂಧಿ! ಎಂಟುನೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಕೇಶಿರಾಜ “ಶಬ್ದಮಣಿದರ್ಪಣ” ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣ ಬರೆದ. ಆ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಸಂಧಿ, ಸಮಾಸ, ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ — ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. 
That is sandhi! Eight hundred years ago Keśirāja wrote a grammar called the Śabdamaṇidarpaṇa. Along that road we will explore sandhi, compounds, case endings — all of it.  
 ವಿನಯ್ —  ಭಾಷೆ ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ; ಇನ್ನು ಅದರ ಒಳರಚನೆ ನೋಡೋಣ! ಸಿದ್ಧ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ. 
The language is on my tongue; now let us see its inner architecture! I am ready.  
 ಮೇಡಂ —  ಭೇಷ್! ಮನೆ ಗೆದ್ದು ಮಾರು ಗೆಲ್ಲು ಅಂತಾರೆ — ಮಾತಿನ ಮನೆ ಗೆದ್ದಿರಿ, ಇನ್ನು ವ್ಯಾಕರಣದ ಮಾರು ಗೆಲ್ಲೋಣ! 
Bravo! They say: win the home, then win the outside. You have won the home of speech; now let us win the wider field of grammar!  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಆರು ಹಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಕಲಿತದ್ದು: ಪರಿಚಯ, ದಿನಚರಿ, ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಬಳಕೆ, ಕಾಲಗಳು, ಕಥನ, ನಿರರ್ಗಳತೆ — ಗಾದೆ, ನುಡಿಗಟ್ಟು, ಪತ್ರ, ಶೈಲಿ ಸಹಿತ. ಇದು “ಆರ್ಕ್ ಎ” — ಬಳಕೆಯ ದಾರಿ. ಮುಂದಿನದು ಸೇತುವೆ ಹಂತ: ಭಾಷೆಯ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗಿನಿಂದ ನೋಡುವ “ಆರ್ಕ್ ಬಿ” ಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶ.

Look back at the climb: introductions, daily life, case usage, tenses, narration, and now fluency with proverbs, idioms, letters and registers. That was Arc A — language by use. Ahead lies the bridge level and then Arc B — the same language seen from inside, through its rules. Nothing you learned becomes obsolete; it becomes the evidence on which every rule will stand.

ಮುನ್ನೋಟ: ನೀವು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ನಿಯಮಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಿ! ಮನೆ + ಅಲ್ಲಿ = ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (ಆಗಮ ಸಂಧಿ); ಮಾತು + ಇಲ್ಲ = ಮಾತಿಲ್ಲ (ಲೋಪ ಸಂಧಿ); ಮಳೆ + ಕಾಲ = ಮಳೆಗಾಲ (ಆದೇಶ ಸಂಧಿ). ಗುರು + ಅನ್ನು = ಗುರುವನ್ನು. ಇವುಗಳ ಹೆಸರು, ನಿಯಮ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ — ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಮುಂದಿನ ಹಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ. ಕೊನೆಯ ಗಾದೆ: “ಮನೆ ಗೆದ್ದು ಮಾರು ಗೆಲ್ಲು” — ಮೊದಲು ಹತ್ತಿರದ್ದನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದು ಆಮೇಲೆ ದೊಡ್ಡದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗು.

A taste of what is coming. You already apply sandhi rules unknowingly: ಮನೆ + ಅಲ್ಲಿ = ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (a 'ya' glide inserted — āgama sandhi), ಮಾತು + ಇಲ್ಲ = ಮಾತಿಲ್ಲ (a vowel dropped — lōpa sandhi), ಮಳೆ + ಕಾಲ = ಮಳೆಗಾಲ ('ka' becomes 'ga' — ādeśa sandhi). Naming and mastering these is the adventure ahead, walking in the footsteps of Keśirāja's Śabdamaṇidarpaṇa. And the closing gāde: ಮನೆ ಗೆದ್ದು ಮಾರು ಗೆಲ್ಲು — win at home first, then conquer the field beyond. The home of speech is yours; the field of grammar awaits.
