 ರವಿ —  ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, ನನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ರವಿ. ನಾನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. 
Hello, my name is Ravi. I have come from Mysuru.  
 ಲತಾ —  ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, ನಾನು ಲತಾ. ನನ್ನ ಊರು ಹುಬ್ಬಳ್ಳಿ. 
Hello, I am Lata. My hometown is Hubballi.  
 ರವಿ —  ನೀವು ಏನು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀರಿ? 
What work do you do?  
 ಲತಾ —  ನಾನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ. ನೀವು? 
I am a teacher. And you?  
 ರವಿ —  ನಾನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ. 
I am a student.  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

“ನಾನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ” — “ಇಂದ” ಎಂದರೆ “from”. ಊರಿನ ಹೆಸರು + ಇಂದ + ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

To say where you come from: town + ಇಂದ (“from”) + ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ (“I have come”). ಮೈಸೂರು becomes ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು becomes ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ. Simpler still: ನನ್ನ ಊರು ಮೈಸೂರು — “my hometown is Mysuru”, no verb needed.

ಕೆಲಸ ಹೇಳಲು ವಾಕ್ಯ ಸುಲಭ: “ನಾನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ”, “ನಾನು ವೈದ್ಯ”. ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಬೇರೆ ರೂಪ ಇದೆ: ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ, ವೈದ್ಯೆ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ.

For occupations, just say ನಾನು + the noun: ನಾನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ “I am a student”. Many occupation words have a feminine form: ಶಿಕ್ಷಕ/ಶಿಕ್ಷಕಿ (teacher m/f), ವೈದ್ಯ/ವೈದ್ಯೆ (doctor m/f), ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ/ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿನಿ (student m/f).
