ವಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧರೂಪ ಇದೆ — “of” ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ. -ಎ/-ಇ ಪದಗಳಿಗೆ “ಯ”: ಮನೆಯ ಬಾಗಿಲು, ಶಾಲೆಯ ಹೆಸರು, ಅಂಗಡಿಯ ಬಾಗಿಲು. -ಅ ಪದಗಳಿಗೆ “ದ”: ಮರದ ಎಲೆ, ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬೆಲೆ, ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪದ.
Things connect to things with the genitive — English ‘of’ or the apostrophe. After -e/-i the link is ಯ: ಮನೆಯ ಬಾಗಿಲು (the house's door), ಶಾಲೆಯ ಹೆಸರು (the school's name). After -a the link is ದ: ಮರದ ಎಲೆ (the tree's leaf), ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಬೆಲೆ (the book's price).
