ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದೆ? ಯಾವಾಗ ಬಂದೆ?

 ರವಿ —  ರಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದೆ? 
Where did you go during the holidays?  
 ಲತಾ —  ನಾನು ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೋದೆ. ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋದೆವು. 
I went to my hometown. We went to grandma's house.  
 ರವಿ —  ಯಾವಾಗ ವಾಪಸ್ ಬಂದೆ? 
When did you come back?  
 ಲತಾ —  ನಿನ್ನೆ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಬಂದೆ. ಬಸ್ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಬಂತು, ಮನೆಗೆ ಬರಲು ತಡ ಆಯಿತು. 
I came last night. The bus came late, so it got late getting home.  
 ರವಿ —  ಅಪ್ಪ-ಅಮ್ಮ ಕೂಡ ಬಂದರಾ? 
Did your parents come too?  
 ಲತಾ —  ಅಮ್ಮ ಬಂದಳು; ಅಪ್ಪ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಉಳಿದರು. 
Mother came; father stayed back in the hometown.

ಕೆಲವು ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದಗಳ ಭೂತಕಾಲ ಬೇರೆ ರೀತಿ: ಹೋಗು → ಹೋದೆ, ಹೋದನು, ಹೋದಳು, ಹೋದರು; ಬರು → ಬಂದೆ, ಬಂದನು, ಬಂದಳು, ಬಂದರು; ಆಗು → ಆದೆ, ಆದನು, ಆದಳು, ಆದರು.

A handful of very common verbs form the past irregularly. Learn the past stem once and all the endings follow: ಹೋಗು (go) → ಹೋದ- : ಹೋದೆ, ಹೋದನು, ಹೋದಳು, ಹೋದೆವು, ಹೋದಿರಿ, ಹೋದರು. ಬರು (come) → ಬಂದ- : ಬಂದೆ, ಬಂದನು, ಬಂದಳು, ಬಂದರು. ಆಗು (become/happen) → ಆದ- : ವೈದ್ಯ ಆದನು (he became a doctor).

ಅದು ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ರೂಪ: ಹೋಯಿತು, ಬಂತು, ಆಯಿತು. ಬಸ್ ಬಂತು; ಮಳೆ ಬಂತು; ಕೆಲಸ ಆಯಿತು.

The neuter forms are special and extremely frequent: ಹೋಯಿತು (it went), ಬಂತು (it came — also ಬಂದಿತು in formal writing), ಆಯಿತು (it happened/became — also the everyday word for okay, done!). ಊಟ ಆಯಿತಾ? — finished eating?

ಬಸ್ ತಡವಾಗಿ ________. (ಬರು) The bus came late.

“ಅವಳು ವೈದ್ಯೆ ________.” She became a doctor.

ವರ್ತಮಾನ — ಭೂತ ಜೋಡಿಸಿ. Match present with past.

ವಾಕ್ಯ ರಚಿಸಿ — “We went to grandma's house.” Arrange the words.

ಬಳಸಿ ನೋಡಿ · Use it

ನೀವು ಕೊನೆಯ ಬಾರಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದಿರಿ? ಯಾವಾಗ ಬಂದಿರಿ? — “ನಾನು …ಗೆ ಹೋದೆ, … ಬಂದೆ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ.

Tell about your last trip: ನಾನು …ಗೆ ಹೋದೆ (I went to …), … ವಾಪಸ್ ಬಂದೆ (I came back …). Add one ಆಯಿತು sentence — e.g. ತುಂಬಾ ಖುಷಿ ಆಯಿತು (it was a lot of fun).
