ಮಳೆ ಬಂದರೂ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ

ಮಾಡಿದರೂ, ಬಂದರೂ — ‘ಆದರೂ’ ಅರ್ಥದ ರೂಪಗಳು.

Say ‘even if / although’ by adding -ū to the conditional.

 ಅಮ್ಮ —  ಹೊರಗೆ ಜೋರು ಮಳೆ. ಇವತ್ತು ಆಟಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಬೇಡ. 
It's raining hard outside. Don't go to play today.  
 ಕಿರಣ —  ಮಳೆ ಬಂದರೂ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಮ್ಮ! ಇವತ್ತು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪಂದ್ಯ ಇದೆ. 
Even if it rains, I'm going, mom! There's an important match today.  
 ಅಮ್ಮ —  ನೀನು ಎಷ್ಟು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ಕೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ! ಜ್ವರ ಬಂದರೆ ಏನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತೀ? 
However much one tells you, you don't listen! What will you do if you get a fever?  
 ಕಿರಣ —  ಜ್ವರ ಬಂದರೂ ಪರವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ! ನಮ್ಮ ತಂಡ ಗೆದ್ದರೆ ಸಾಕು. 
Even if I get a fever, no matter! It's enough if our team wins.  
 ಅಮ್ಮ —  ಸರಿ, ಹೋಗು. ಆದರೂ ಒಂದು ಮಾತು — ಛತ್ರಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗು! 
Fine, go. Even so, one word — take an umbrella!  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಷರತ್ತಿನ ‘ಎ’ ಬದಲು ‘ಊ’ ಬಂದರೆ ಅರ್ಥ ‘ಆದರೂ’ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ: ಬಂದರೆ (if) → ಬಂದರೂ (even if); ಮಾಡಿದರೆ → ಮಾಡಿದರೂ; ಓದಿದರೆ → ಓದಿದರೂ. ಮಳೆ ಬಂದರೂ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ = ಮಳೆ ಬಂದರೆ ಸಹ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ.

Swap the conditional's final ‑ಎ for ‑ಊ and ‘if’ becomes ‘even if’: ಬಂದರೆ → ಬಂದರೂ, ಮಾಡಿದರೆ → ಮಾಡಿದರೂ. ಮಳೆ ಬಂದರೂ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ = even if it rains, I'll go. This mirrors the ‑ಊ you know from ನಾನೂ (I too) — the same ‘also/even’ vowel.

‘ಎಷ್ಟು … ‑ರೂ’ ಜೋಡಿ ‘however much’ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ: ಎಷ್ಟು ಓದಿದರೂ ಮರೆತುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ‘ಆದರೂ’ ಎಂದರೆ ‘ಹೀಗಿದ್ದರೂ’: ಮಳೆ ಜೋರು. ಆದರೂ ಹೊರಟನು.

Pair it with ಎಷ್ಟು for ‘however much’: ಎಷ್ಟು ಓದಿದರೂ ಮರೆತುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ (however much I read, it slips away). Standalone ಆದರೂ at the start of a sentence means ‘even so, nevertheless’: ಮಳೆ ಜೋರು. ಆದರೂ ಹೊರಟನು (the rain was heavy; even so he set out).
