ರಾಧಾ ಹೇಳಿದ ಕಥೆ
 ರಾಧಾ —  ನಾನು ಚಿಕ್ಕವಳಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಡೆದ ಒಂದು ಘಟನೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅದು ಮರೆಯಲಾರದ ದಿನ. 
I'll tell you something that happened when I was little. It was an unforgettable day.  
 ರಾಧಾ —  ಒಂದು ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ಊರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಹೋದೆವು. ಊಟ ಆದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾನು ಒಬ್ಬಳೇ ಹೊಳೆಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಆಡಲು ಹೋದೆ. 
One summer we travelled to grandmother's village. After lunch I went alone to play near the stream.  
 ರಾಧಾ —  ಆಗ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೇಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಒಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮರಿ ನನಗೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿತು. ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಭಯ ಆಯಿತು. 
Then I spotted a little pup struggling in the water. When I saw it, I got scared.  
 ರಾಧಾ —  ನಾನು ಬೇಗ ಹೋಗದಿದ್ದರೆ ಮರಿ ಮುಳುಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡೆ. ಒಂದು ಉದ್ದ ಕೋಲು ತಂದು ನೀರಿಗೆ ಹಿಡಿದೆ. 
I thought: if I don't go quickly, the pup will drown. I brought a long stick and held it to the water.  
 ರಾಧಾ —  ಮರಿ ಕೋಲು ಹಿಡಿದು ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂತು! ಅದನ್ನು ಮನೆಗೆ ತಂದಾಗ ಅಜ್ಜಿ — ನೀನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೆಲಸ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು. 
The pup caught the stick and came up! When I brought it home, grandma said what I had done was a big deed.  
 ರಾಧಾ —  ಆ ಮರಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದಾದರೂ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೀಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಕಥೆ ಮುಗಿಯಿತು! 
Even after that pup grew big, it never forgot me. Thus my story ended!

ರಾಧಾಳ ಕಥೆಯ ಚೌಕಟ್ಟು ನೋಡಿ: (1) ಆರಂಭ — ಯಾವಾಗ, ಎಲ್ಲಿ (ಚಿಕ್ಕವಳಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ); (2) ಘಟನೆ — ಏನು ಆಯಿತು (ನೋಡಿದಾಗ, ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡೆ, ಹೋಗದಿದ್ದರೆ); (3) ಕೊನೆ — ಫಲ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾತು (ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು). ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಥೆಗೂ ಇದೇ ಮೂರು ಹಂತ ಸಾಕು.

Radha's story shows the full narration frame: (1) setting — when and where, built on ಆಗಿದ್ದಾಗ and place words; (2) the event — driven by ನೋಡಿದಾಗ (when I saw), the conditional thought ಹೋಗದಿದ್ದರೆ … ಎಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡೆ, and a chain of past verbs; (3) the close — a reported comment (ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು) and a sign-off. Three moves, and you can narrate anything.
