 ವಾಚಕಿ —  ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, ಇದು ಬೆಳಗಿನ ವಾರ್ತೆ. ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶಗಳು. 
Greetings, this is the morning news. First, the headlines.  
 ವಾಚಕಿ —  ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ ಒಂದು: ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಹಲವು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದು ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ. 
Headline one: chance of heavy rain in several districts of the state today.  
 ವಾಚಕಿ —  ವಿವರ: ಮುಂದಿನ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆ ಆಗಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹವಾಮಾನ ಇಲಾಖೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ. ಜನರು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಇರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. 
Detail: the weather department has informed that heavy rain will occur in the coastal and Malnad regions for the next three days. Officials have said that people should remain cautious.  
 ವಾಚಕಿ —  ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ ಎರಡು: ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆ. ಇನ್ನೂರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಓದುವ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಸಚಿವರು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. 
Headline two: a new library inaugurated in the city. Two hundred students took part in the programme. The minister called upon people to grow the habit of reading.  
 ವಾಚಕಿ —  ವಾರ್ತೆಗಳು ಮುಗಿದವು. ಧನ್ಯವಾದ.

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಸುದ್ದಿಯ ಶೈಲಿಯ ಮೂರು ಗುರುತು: ೧) ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ — “ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ”, “ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆ”. ೨) ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಮಾತಿಗೆ “ಎಂದು + ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ / ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ / ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು”. ೩) ಭವಿಷ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ “ಆಗಲಿದೆ” — “ಮಳೆ ಆಗಲಿದೆ” ಎಂದರೆ “ಮಳೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ” ಎಂಬ ವರದಿ ರೂಪ.

Three signatures of Kannada news style. First, headlines drop verbs: ಭಾರಿ ಮಳೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ('heavy rain likelihood'), ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆ ('library inauguration') — noun stacks, no ಇದೆ. Second, everything attributed is wrapped in ಎಂದು + a reporting verb: ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ (an institution informed), ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ (officials have said), ಎಂದು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು ('gave a call to…'). Third, the newsy future -ಲಿದೆ: ಮಳೆ ಆಗಲಿದೆ 'rain is set to occur'. Spot these three and any newspaper page opens up.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಗುರುತು: ಸುದ್ದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ತತ್ಸಮ ಪದಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚು — ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ, ಇಲಾಖೆ, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ, ಭಾಗವಹಿಸು. ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇವು ಕಡಿಮೆ; ಓದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇವೇ ರಾಜ. ಹೊಸ ಪದ ಕಂಡಾಗ ಮೊದಲು ವಾಕ್ಯದ ರಚನೆ ಹಿಡಿಯಿರಿ — ಯಾರು, ಏನು, ಎಂದು ಯಾರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

One more marker: news prose leans on weighty Sanskrit-derived (tatsama) vocabulary — ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ possibility, ಇಲಾಖೆ department, ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ official, ಭಾಗವಹಿಸು participate. Rare in chat, royal in print. When a sentence looks hard, find its frame first: who did what, and who said so (the ಎಂದು clause). The unknown nouns then fall into place from context.

ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ “ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಉದ್ಘಾಟನೆ” — ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಏನು ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ? What has the headline dropped?

ಓದುವ ಹವ್ಯಾಸ ಬೆಳೆಸಬೇಕು ________ ಸಚಿವರು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. (the quoting word) Fill the reported-speech particle.

“ಮಳೆ ಆಗಲಿದೆ” — ಮಾತಿನ ಸರಳ ರೂಪ ಯಾವುದು? What is the plain conversational equivalent of āgalide?

ಸುದ್ದಿ ವಾಕ್ಯ ರಚಿಸಿ — “Two hundred students participated in the programme.” Arrange the words.

ನೀವೇ ವರದಿಗಾರರು! ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯ ಅಥವಾ ಊರಿನ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಘಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಸುದ್ದಿ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆಯಿರಿ: ಒಂದು ಕ್ರಿಯಾಪದ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಮುಖ್ಯಾಂಶ + ಮೂರು ವಾಕ್ಯದ ವಿವರ. ಒಂದು ವಾಕ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ “ಎಂದು … ಹೇಳಿದರು” ಬರಲೇಬೇಕು.

You are the reporter! Write up one small event from your home or town in news style: a verbless headline plus a three-sentence report. Include one ಎಂದು … ಹೇಳಿದರು attribution and, if you can, one -ಲಿದೆ future. Then read it out in your best newsreader voice — ಇದು ಬೆಳಗಿನ ವಾರ್ತೆ!
