ಕೈ ಕೆಸರಾದರೆ ಬಾಯಿ ಮೊಸರು — ದುಡಿಮೆಯ ಮೂರು ಗಾದೆಗಳು.

ಹೊಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪ್ಪ-ಮಗ
 ಮಗ —  ಅಪ್ಪ, ಈ ಕೆಲಸ ತುಂಬಾ ಕಷ್ಟ. ಕೈಯೆಲ್ಲ ಕೆಸರು ಆಯಿತು! 
Father, this work is so hard. My hands are all muddy!  
 ಅಪ್ಪ —  ಹಾಗೇ ಆಗಬೇಕು ಮಗನೇ! ಕೈ ಕೆಸರಾದರೆ ಬಾಯಿ ಮೊಸರು. 
That is how it should be, son! If the hands get muddy, the mouth gets curds.  
 ಮಗ —  ಅಂದರೆ ಏನು? 
Meaning what?  
 ಅಪ್ಪ —  ಇಂದು ಕೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದುಡಿದರೆ, ನಾಳೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಫಸಲು — ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಊಟ. ದುಡಿಮೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಫಲ ಇಲ್ಲ. 
If you toil in the mud today, tomorrow there is a good harvest — a good meal. No fruit without labour.  
 ಮಗ —  ಪಕ್ಕದ ಮನೆಯ ಸೋಮ ಕೆಲಸವೇ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಫಲ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ! 
Soma next door does no work at all. Yet he expects the fruits!  
 ಅಪ್ಪ —  ಅವನವನ ಫಲ ಅವನವನಿಗೆ — ಮಾಡಿದ್ದುಣ್ಣೋ ಮಹಾರಾಯ! ಈಗ ಬಾ, ಗಾಳಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬೀಸುತ್ತಿದೆ, ರಾಗಿ ತೂರೋಣ. ಗಾಳಿ ಬಂದಾಗ ತೂರಿಕೋ ಅಂತಾರೆ! 
To each the fruit of his own deeds — you reap what you sow, good sir! Now come, the wind is blowing well, let us winnow the ragi. Winnow while the wind blows, they say!  

ವಿವರಣೆ · Explanation

ಗಾದೆ ೧: “ಕೈ ಕೆಸರಾದರೆ ಬಾಯಿ ಮೊಸರು”. ಕೆಸರು = mud; ಮೊಸರು = curds. ಕೈ ಕೆಸರಾಗುವಷ್ಟು ದುಡಿದರೆ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಮೊಸರಿನಂಥ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಊಟ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಗಾದೆ ೨: “ಮಾಡಿದ್ದುಣ್ಣೋ ಮಹಾರಾಯ” — ಮಾಡಿದ್ದನ್ನು + ಉಣ್ಣು; ನೀನು ಮಾಡಿದ ಕರ್ಮದ ಫಲವನ್ನೇ ಉಣ್ಣುತ್ತೀಯ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದಕ್ಕೂ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.

Gāde 1: ಕೈ ಕೆಸರಾದರೆ ಬಾಯಿ ಮೊಸರು — if the hand gets muddy, the mouth gets curds. Hear the rhyme ಕೆಸರು/ಮೊಸರು: dirty your hands in honest work and you will eat well. Gāde 2: ಮಾಡಿದ್ದುಣ್ಣೋ ಮಹಾರಾಯ — a fusion of ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು + ಉಣ್ಣು ('eat what you did') plus the wry address ಮಹಾರಾಯ ('great sir'). It is the karma proverb: you will eat exactly what you cooked by your own deeds — usually said when someone's misdeeds catch up with them.

ಗಾದೆ ೩: “ಗಾಳಿ ಬಂದಾಗ ತೂರಿಕೋ”. ತೂರು = ಧಾನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎತ್ತಿ ಹೊಟ್ಟು ಬೇರ್ಪಡಿಸು. ಗಾಳಿ ಇದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ತೂರಬೇಕು; ಅವಕಾಶ ಇದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ಬಳಸಬೇಕು. “-ಆದಾಗ … ಮಾಡಿಕೋ” ಎಂಬ ರಚನೆ ಗಮನಿಸಿ.

Gāde 3: ಗಾಳಿ ಬಂದಾಗ ತೂರಿಕೋ — winnow when the wind comes. ತೂರು is to toss grain in the breeze so the chaff blows away; no wind, no winnowing. So: strike while the iron is hot, use the opportunity while it lasts. Note the structure — ಬಂದಾಗ 'when it comes' plus the reflexive imperative ತೂರಿಕೋ 'winnow for yourself'.
