ಈಗ ದೊಡ್ಡ ರಹಸ್ಯ ನೋಡಿ: ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು “ಸೇರುವ ರೂಪ” ಇದೆ. ಮರ → ಮರದ-, ಮನೆ → ಮನೆಯ-, ಊರು → ಊರಿನ-. ಆ ರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಸೇರುತ್ತವೆ: ಮರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮರದಿಂದ, ಮರದ ಕೆಳಗೆ; ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಊರಿನಿಂದ, ಊರಿನ ಹೆಸರು.

Here is the secret that unifies this whole level: every noun has one oblique stem, and all the endings attach to it. -a nouns: ಮರ → ಮರದ- (ಮರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮರದಿಂದ, ಮರದ ಕೆಳಗೆ). -e/-i nouns: ಮನೆ → ಮನೆಯ- (ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮನೆಯಿಂದ, ಮನೆಯ ಬಾಗಿಲು). -u nouns: ಊರು → ಊರಿನ- (ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಊರಿನಿಂದ, ಊರಿನ ಹೆಸರು).

ಎರಡು ವಿಶೇಷ: ಗಂಡಸರ -ಅ ಪದಗಳಿಗೆ “ನ” (ರಾಮನ, ರಾಮನಿಗೆ, ರಾಮನನ್ನು), ಮತ್ತು ಹೂವು → ಹೂವಿನ, ಹಾಲು → ಹಾಲಿನ — -ಉ ಪದಗಳೆಲ್ಲ “ಇನ”. “ಅನ್ನು” ಮತ್ತು “ಗೆ” ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬೇರೆ (ಮರವನ್ನು, ಮರಕ್ಕೆ) — ಆದರೆ ಉಳಿದವು ಒಂದೇ ನಿಯಮ!

Two notes. Male persons in -a use ನ everywhere: ರಾಮನ, ರಾಮನಿಗೆ, ರಾಮನನ್ನು. And all -u nouns use ಇನ: ಹೂವಿನ ತೋಟ (flower garden), ಹಾಲಿನ ಲೋಟ (glass of milk). Only -annu and -ge/-kke have their own twists (ಮರವನ್ನು, ಮರಕ್ಕೆ); the rest is one clean rule.

ಮೂರು ಪದ ಆರಿಸಿ — ಒಂದು -ಅ, ಒಂದು -ಎ/-ಇ, ಒಂದು -ಉ ಅಂತ್ಯ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ರೂಪ ಹೇಳಿ: “…ದಲ್ಲಿ/ಯಲ್ಲಿ/ಇನಲ್ಲಿ, …ದಿಂದ, …ದ, …ಕ್ಕೆ/ಗೆ” — ಉದಾ: ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ತೋಟದಿಂದ, ತೋಟದ, ತೋಟಕ್ಕೆ.

Pick three nouns — one each ending in -a, -e/-i, -u — and run each through four forms aloud: locative, ablative, genitive, dative. Example: ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ, ತೋಟದಿಂದ, ತೋಟದ, ತೋಟಕ್ಕೆ. The stem stays the same; only the tail changes.
