ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಕೇಳಿ, ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಆರಿಸಿ: ಏನನ್ನು? → ಅನ್ನು. ಯಾರಿಗೆ/ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ? → ಗೆ/ಕ್ಕೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಿ? → ಅಲ್ಲಿ. ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ/ಯಾವುದರಿಂದ? → ಇಂದ. ಯಾರ/ಯಾವುದರ? → ನ/ಯ/ದ/ಇನ.

To pick the right ending, ask the question the sentence answers: what? → -annu; to whom / to where? → -ge/-kke; where? → -alli; from where / with what? → -inda; whose / of what? → the genitive. One sentence can hold several: ಅಮ್ಮನ ಚೀಲದಲ್ಲಿ ದುಡ್ಡು ಇದೆ — whose bag (ಅಮ್ಮನ), where (ಚೀಲದಲ್ಲಿ).

ನೆನಪಿಡಿ: “ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕು / ಗೊತ್ತು / ಇಷ್ಟ” — ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ “ಗೆ”. ವಸ್ತುಗಳ “ಅನ್ನು” ಆಡುಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುತ್ತದೆ; ಜನರ “ಅನ್ನು” ಬೀಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

Two traps to remember from earlier lessons: wanting/knowing/liking put the person in the dative (ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕು), and -annu may drop from things in speech but never from people.
