ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ಕಥೆ — ಹಕ್ಕಿಯ ದಿನ
 ಅಜ್ಜಿ —  ಮಕ್ಕಳೇ, ಒಂದು ಕಥೆ ಕೇಳಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ತೋಟದ ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಹಕ್ಕಿಯ ಗೂಡು ಇದೆ. 
Children, listen to a story. On the tree of our garden there is a bird's nest.  
 ಅಜ್ಜಿ —  ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ಗೂಡಿನಿಂದ ಆಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುತ್ತದೆ. 
In the morning the bird flies from the nest into the sky. It looks for fruit in the garden.  
 ಅಜ್ಜಿ —  ಸಂಜೆ ಅದು ಗೂಡಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ತನ್ನ ಮರಿಗೆ ಹಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. 
In the evening it comes back to the nest. It gives the fruit to its chick.  
 ಸೀತಾ —  ಅಜ್ಜೀ, ಮರಿಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷ ಆಗುತ್ತದಾ? 
Grandma, is the chick happy?  
 ಅಜ್ಜಿ —  ಹೌದು! ಮರಿಯ ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಗೂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡು ಕೇಳುತ್ತದೆ — ಮನೆಯ ಒಳಗೂ ಹಕ್ಕಿಯ ಹಾಡು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ! 
Yes! From the chick's joy a song sounds in the nest — the bird's song reaches even inside the house!

Watch one word travel through the story: ಗೂಡು (nest) becomes ಗೂಡಿಗೆ (to it), ಗೂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ (in it), ಗೂಡಿನಿಂದ (from it). The oblique stem ಗೂಡಿನ- never changes; only the question being answered does. That is the whole grammar of this level.
