Negation II: don't/won't vs didn't
ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (ಮಾಡುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ); ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ (ಆಗ ಮಾಡಿಲ್ಲ).
Verb negation: ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ for present/future, ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ for past.

ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ನಿಷೇಧಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ರೂಪ. ೧) ಮಾಡುವುದು + ಇಲ್ಲ = ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ — “ಮಾಡುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಇಲ್ಲ” ಅಥವಾ “ಮುಂದೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ”: ನಾನು ಮಾಂಸ ತಿನ್ನುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಅವನು ನಾಳೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
To negate a verb, Kannada has two key forms. First: verbal noun + ಇಲ್ಲ → ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, covering both don't (habit) and won't (future): ನಾನು ಮಾಂಸ ತಿನ್ನುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (I don't eat meat); ಅವಳು ನಾಳೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (she won't come tomorrow).
೨) ಮಾಡಲು + ಇಲ್ಲ = ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ — ಭೂತದ ನಿಷೇಧ: ನಿನ್ನೆ ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಏನೂ ತಿನ್ನಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸುಲಭ: ಎರಡೂ ರೂಪ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಒಂದೇ! ನಾನು/ಅವನು/ಅವಳು/ಅವರು ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ.
Second: infinitive + ಇಲ್ಲ → ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ, the past negative didn't: ನಿನ್ನೆ ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ (didn't come yesterday), ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ (didn't go). Here's the great mercy of Kannada negation: these forms never change for person or gender — ನಾನು ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಅವಳು ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಅವರು ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ are all the same verb form.
