Shall we go to Mysuru or to Hampi for the holidays?  
 ಅಂಜಲಿ —  ಎರಡೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಹಂಪಿ ತುಂಬಾ ದೂರ. 
Both are nice. But Hampi is very far.  
 ಹರೀಶ್ —  ಹೌದು. ನಮಗೆ ಎರಡೇ ದಿನ ರಜೆ ಇದೆ; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಮೈಸೂರೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. 
True. We have only two days off; therefore Mysuru is better.

 ಹರೀಶ್ —  ನಾನು ಇವತ್ತೇ ಬಸ್ ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ರೈಲು ಟಿಕೆಟ್ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. 
I'll buy bus tickets today itself. Train tickets won't be available.

ನಾಲ್ಕು ಜೋಡಿಸುವ ಪದ: ಮತ್ತು (ಅರಮನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೃಗಾಲಯ), ಅಥವಾ (ಕಾಫಿ ಅಥವಾ ಟೀ?), ಆದರೆ (ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಆದರೆ ತಡವಾಗಿ), ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ (ಮಳೆ ಬಂತು; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ).

Four workhorse connectors: ಮತ್ತು (and), ಅಥವಾ (or), ಆದರೆ (but), ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ (therefore/so). Examples: ಅರಮನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೃಗಾಲಯ; ಕಾಫಿ ಅಥವಾ ಟೀ?; ನಾನು ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ, ಆದರೆ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಮಳೆ ಬಂತು, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ನೆನಪಿಡಿ: ಕ್ರಿಯೆ-ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಜೋಡಿಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ಬೇಡ — ಕೃದಂತ ಸಾಕು (ಬಂದು ನೋಡಿದೆ). ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ನಾಮಪದ ಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಡುಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ “ಮೈಸೂರೂ ಹಂಪಿಯೂ” ಎಂದು -ಊ ಸೇರಿಸಿಯೂ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Remember from the chaining lesson: verbs join with the participle (ಬಂದು ನೋಡಿದೆ), not with ಮತ್ತು — ಮತ್ತು mainly joins nouns and whole sentences, and is a bit bookish. Speech often prefers the -ಊ suffix on both nouns instead: ಅಣ್ಣನೂ ತಮ್ಮನೂ ಬಂದರು (both elder and younger brother came).

“ಮಳೆ ಜೋರಾಗಿ ಬಂತು; ________ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ರಜೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು.” It rained heavily; therefore they gave a school holiday.

ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಾಫಿ ಬೇಕಾ ________ ಟೀ ಬೇಕಾ? Do you want coffee or tea?

ವಾಕ್ಯ ರಚಿಸಿ — “We saw the palace and the zoo.” Arrange the words.

ನಾಲ್ಕು ವಾಕ್ಯ ಹೇಳಿ — ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು, ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆದರೆ, ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ, ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ. ಉದಾ: “ನನಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಇಷ್ಟ, ಆದರೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ದಿನವೂ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತೇನೆ!”
